If you live in South Windsor CT there are some great recycling opportunities for you!
Single stream recycling with bi-weekly collection is offered to residents. That means one big blue bucket for everything. No sorting is required! Just make sure that what you put in the bucket is recyclable! What can you recycle? Newspapers, boxes, glass and plastic bottles, most clean food cans, plastics #1 through #7. For a complete list of what is acceptable for collection South Windsor Recycling Program. At my house my recycle bin is always brim full now! The single stream recycling program has greatly reduced the amount of trash we have and increased what is recycled and reused.
Leaves at the end of the season are collected and turned in to mulch. They just need to be raked to the street and not into the street! If they are in the street you can be fined $99! ouch!. A schedule of leaf collection is posted on the town website.
Scrap Metal is collected, including appliances and air conditioners, simply call 860-644-2511 x.343 by Tuesday for Wednesday pickup. Appliances are subject to a $15 fee each (subject to change)
Waste motor oil and auto,tractor or truck batteries are collected as well. Waste oil should be poured into clear plastic 1 gallon or smaller container with a lid and placed next to the recycling bin. Batteries should be places next to the recycling container for collection.
There are also some additional recycling opportunities in South Windsor!
Electronics Recycling. Do you have an old TV, computer or other electronics? Bring them to one of the regularly scheduled electronic’s recycling days. You will find signs posted around South Windsor when an event is coming up, according to the town website these collections are quarterly.
Household Hazardous Waste can be brought to a regularly schedule collection events both in South Windsor and the surrounding towns. While not technically recycling, they are the proper place disposal of such waste. Events are from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays and for a list of upcoming dates and locations visit. If you have things like drain cleaners, antifreeze, brake fluid, oil based paint, ammonia, aerosol cans, bring it to one of these events.
